Jesus Could Not Have Been a Good Man

There are many people out there who have accepted the fact that Jesus did exist historically.  They believe that while he was not the Son of God, he was a good man who did many good things.  Are they right?  Let’s explore what the bible has to say and you can decide.

In John 11:25 (NKJV) Jesus says of himself “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.”  In John 10:30 (NIV) he says “I and the Father are one.”  Over in John 14:9 (NKJV) he states “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? In all these verses Jesus is clearly equating himself with God the Father, and telling us that he has power over life and death.  Finally, let’s look at Matthew 9:2-6 (NKJV).  It tells us: “(2) Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, ‘Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.’ (3) And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, ‘This Man blasphemes!’ (4) But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, ‘Why do you think evil in your hearts? (5) For which is easier, to say, “Your sins are forgiven you,” or to say, “Arise and walk”? (6) But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins’–then He said to the paralytic, ‘Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.’ (7) And he arose and departed to his house.

So let’s recap what we have.  On multiple occasions Jesus claims he and God are one, and that if you see him you have seen God (the Father).  In addition, Jesus claims to have the powers of God such as power over life and death, and the power to forgive sins which only God is able to do.  If Jesus was not God, and he did not have power over life and death then he is as far from being a good man as you can get.  He was either delusional and suffering from mental illness, and/or he was a complete charlatan taking advantage of the people and telling them lies.

In the end we are left with only one logical conclusion.  Jesus Christ was either the Son of God as he claimed to be in numerous bible passages, or he was a delusional man suffering from mental illness and/or a charlatan taking advantage of the masses.  However, the one thing we can be sure he was not is a good man.
